Liquid Phase Ion Mobility Spectrometry

Liquid IMS works on the same principle as gas phase IMS, the method of choice for the rapid detection of drugs and explosives. Because ions diffuse three orders of magnitude slower in liquids than in gases, real-time ion detection can take place in a miniaturized liquid phase IMS.

To complement this technique, our group has developed electrodispersion ionization(EDI) which is a novel ionization source for the liquid phase. Experimental data showed that EDI delivered inorganic and organic ions from aqueous solution into a non-ionic buffer liquid.
